Though, I think you will agree that it was worth the wait after you hear this haunting split release from two Chicago natives: Ambient guitar-loop guru Swim Ignorant Fire and freak orchestra Count Brent & the Maestros. Inspired by the events following the BP oil spill in the gulf coast, Swim Ignorant Fire presents us with a beautiful high-concept piece on side A, while Count Brent & the Maestros feed us our daily dose of Meat Loaf-infused noisy goodness on side B. Empty is his newest compendium of wonderfulness, featuring almost an hour of new music, as well as covers of Spacemen 3 and Swans songs. Drawing influence from shoegaze, drone, shitgaze, and everything in between, there's something here for every kind of noise connoisseur. Love-dubbed, sparkly black and silver cassette tapes with a full-color, five-panel j-card, all wrapped up in aluminum foil and tied with twine. Lazy Roar was always intended to be a label where fun punk rock music could coexist with heavy experimentalism and, so far, the LR catalog has heavily favored the latter. With the label's first ever vinyl release, however, the punk side is reclaiming what is rightfully theirs. Known for their intense live shows throughout the Swedish underground, Jailhouse Fuck's newest release is a powerful, six song romp with intricate drums, shattering guitars, and Mika Miko-esque vocals. How do you describe the indescribable? Through song, of course. A few months ago, sixteen artists took on the challenge of composing a piece of music that captures of the experience of experience and the feeling of feeling. The finished product plays much more like a mixtape or collaboration than a mere compilation, with each song seamlessly picking up where the previous one left off. Cassette culture is back, baby. With over 70 minutes of material, this floating, flowing epic is not to be missed. Mastered and compiled by Rob Duffy of Kleptocephalus with awesome artwork by Jay Harmon of Boy Fruit. "The Baron is not all that he appears. On the surface, his lo-fi drum and bass thrashings appear as senseless sonic soldiers reaking their merciless, discordant onslaught. Digging deeper, however, you start to see the class through the chaos. Take the title of the album, for example. If you've been reading up on your Prussian military history, you know that Pour le Mérite, which translates literally to "for the merit", was the highest honor an officer could receive circa World War I. A similarly titled order was also given for contributions on science and art. Notable recipients of this civil-class award included Charles Darwin, Johannes Brahms, and Albert Einstein. What does this all have to do with badass noise rock? Absolutely nothing, and that's why it's awesome. Professionally pressed and imprinted compact disc goodness with authentically scorched cover insert. A limited number of CDs also contain a foam glider."
